Design Deep Dive with Mary Anne Smiley Interiors
Dallas-based interior designer Mary Anne Smiley is no stranger to working in pops of color. “I can’t help myself, every space needs color!” For a recent project, that color was amethyst. Smiley incorporated the purple hue into the open concept kitchen and living room, creating a nice flow between the two spaces. She grounded the living room space with Perennials’ Rose Tibetan knot rug in Aubergine. Smiley tells us about her design below….
Perennials: Tell us how your living room design took shape?
MAS: We began with a new custom contemporary home that is like a tree house in that the living area is on the second floor – even with the treetops – and the space is open with large window walls.
We wanted everything but the focal points to be very streamlined and neutral, as to not distract from the natural view. So all furnishings are either shades of white or clear acrylic with accent textiles in purple, the client’s favorite color.
The huge rose design in the purple rug is kin to the Richard Bettinger large rose wallcovering in the adjacent powder room, and is unified with purple upholstery on classic contemporary bar stools and dining chairs in the kitchen.
Perennials: What is your favorite thing about Perennials Rugs?
MAS: They are pet friendly, but so elegant!
